New Classrooms for the New School Year

December 25, 2015

To support complete, school-wide upgrades, the Louis Calder Foundation, which had previously awarded the Partnership with a $1 million gift, agreed to release their funds for immediate use. Some of the most noticeable changes were the hundreds of brand new desks and chairs brought in for all 1st through 8th grade classrooms. Many rooms were also freshly painted, equipped with new whiteboards, lighting, blinds, storage, and improved flooring.Refurbishing almost every room in the building was a major undertaking. Our Director of School Operations, Rachel Walker, worked closely with Partnership Facilities Manager, George Grenier, to coordinate the logistics to make sure everything was in place when teachers returned at the end of August, the renovations followed an extremely tight schedule. From the moment
students left for the summer, classrooms were completely cleaned out and spruced up to make room for the new furniture. On the first day of school in September, neat rows of new desks and chairs awaited their owners. Students entered classrooms joyfully, eager to settle into learn. New backpacks, complete with the Partnership logo, hung on the sides of the desks and added the perfect finishing touch to the project.Students and teachers now spend the day in rooms that foster a positive learning environment. “I love my new modern classroom,” said second grade teacher Jessica Muoio. The vast improvement is a reflection of the respect and aspirations we have for all our students, staff, and teachers. And We are so excited to share our “new” building with supporters and alumni.
