Science Comes Alive at OLQA

July 24, 2015

This year OLQA launched an exciting new partnership with the New York Hall of Science. The Hall of Science provides instruction, materials and special programming, all supplementing OLQA’s science curriculum both during the day and after-school. Science Program Instructors visit the school twice a week to work with students and teachers, adding to students’ understanding of science with various experiments. Students love the hands-on instruction. Fifth graders have engineered motorized carts that propelled themselves with an inflated balloon. Second graders have learned about the engineering process and have built stable bridges out of toothpicks and marshmallows. Sixth graders have examined owl pellets and the third grade has looked at the night’s sky in an observatory built in OLQA’s gym. Science has come alive at OLQA!
