Volunteers Bring New Life to Library
December 19, 2014We understand that closing the education gap is not just about providing an excellent education in the classroom, but also exposure and experiences outside the classroom. With the help of the Partnership, we are developing a volunteer base made of men and women who want a hands-on experience with OLQA and our students, and we would love for you to join. Volunteering is entirely up to you – we will work with you to figure out what makes the most sense for both you and our students.
One example of the power of volunteering took place this past November. Mr. Dennis Lally, an OLQA Board Member, noticed that the library was struggling to find its identity after a move from the 3rd floor to the 2nd. Armed with sturdy shoes and a drill, Mr. Lally and a group of volunteers from the Partnership’s Jr. Advisory Board spent a Saturday afternoon revitalizing the library, creating a space where any student would love to sit with a book. Yoalex F. in the 2nd grade was amazed to find the library transformed overnight. “I love this library,” he said. “I want to read all the books in here!”
Whether you have one hour every other month or every week, your time is valued and put to good use each and every time you lend a hand. To learn more about becoming a part of OLQA, please contact Diana Marin, Admissions and Development Associate, at (212) 722-9277 ext 1 or firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
