Fourth Graders Meet Famous Authors
December 16, 2013In late September, the 4th grade took a class trip to the main branch of the New York Public Library on 42nd Street where they were one of two schools in the city selected to learn about children’s literature and meet famous authors Judy Blume and Eric Carle.
The library, which was celebrating children’s literature with a list of the 100 greatest children’s books from the last 100 years, invited the 4th grade to listen to a panel discussion with the renowned authors. Students had front row seats to hear Ms. Blume and Mr. Carle read aloud from their books Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and The Very Hungry Caterpillar, both of which were placed on the top 100 list. Sean B. exclaimed about the trip, “It was amazing because Judy Blume signed my book! I almost died!” The students left with a remarkable memory of not only having visited one of New York City’s treasures, but also of having met such iconic and distinguished authors.
