Extended Day Program
Students in grades 1 through 8 are in class from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, students are dismissed at 2:30 p.m. and teachers participate in staff development workshops. The Extended Day Program was implemented in September 2005 in order to strengthen the basic instruction and enrichment programs offered by the school. Convenient for parents and beneficial for children, the additional time provides students and teachers with greater flexibility to engage in more hands-on learning and in-depth lessons.
Early Childhood Program
Learning and self-development begin at an early age at OLQA. OLQA offers an early learning program for children turning 3 or 4 years of age by December 31st.
Children enjoy a full day of age appropriate activities in all disciplines. Our young learners also use technology as a learning tool. By getting a head start, our pre-kindergarten students are well prepared and adjusted when they enter kindergarten at the age of 5.
Technology Integration
In addition to computers in every classroom, OLQA is equipped with a computer lab and science lab, incorporating the latest SMART Board technology. SMART Board is an interactive whiteboard that engages and motivates students of all ages. OLQA’s technology specialist works with students and teachers to explore new and exciting ways to integrate technology in every aspect of the curriculum.
Visual Arts Program
Creativity is encouraged and developed through OLQA’s Creative Classrooms Visual Arts Program. Students learn techniques in painting, drawing, and sculpture from a professional artist once a week. The art teacher collaborates with classroom teachers on curriculum projects and field trips. Recently, selected students’ artwork was displayed at the Metropolitan Hospital.
Music Program
OLQA’s students receive instruction in music theory, music history, multicultural appreciation and broad exposure to many types of music. Second and Third graders learn how to play recorders and read music. Choral instruction culminates in a school-wide performance that enriches the experience of all OLQA students.
Full Day Schedule
OLQA is open to students from 7:00am to 6:00pm
Before School Program: 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 a.m.
- 7:00am Early Drop Off: Adult supervision provided
- 7:30am Breakfast Program: Students start the day off right with a breakfast of hot & cold breakfast foods.
- 8:00am Classes Begin: A full day of academic & enrichment programs begins.
- 2:30pm Classes End for Pre-K and K, Mon-Fri, Grades 1-8, Fri
- 4:00pm Classes End for grades 1-8, Mon-Thurs
- 4:00pm After School Program Begins: Homework help & supervised play activities (Pre-K K program begins at 2:30pm)
- 6:00pm After School Program Ends
